I drove a hour to pick up my seahorse today in Phoenix at The Curious Nature Shop. I was searously temped to buy everything in the store. The girl at the front counter was super sweet, I believe her name was Heather. We talked for awhile about the shop and how I had taken an interest in taxidermy. I showed her photos of Charlie, the coyote skull that I proceed and she thought he was beautiful. Not just beautiful because of the art piece that I made but because I brought life to a tragic situation. They offer taxidermy and entomology classes in the shop which has me excited!
I also found this creepy antique shop that had an old traction elevator door with a lock on it and a buzzer that you had to push to be let inside the building. This old man who looked like he stepped out of Stephen King book greeted me with a crooked smile. His name is Joe. Joe is actually a kind warm hearted soul once you get past the creepiness. I felt an eerie presence while I was walking around the maze of stuff. I wanted to keep looking but I left because I felt overwhelmed. Really fucking odd.
I decided to stop at a bookstore after that to see if I could find a Father’s Day gift for my husband. I met an author/poet who was there doing a book signing. His book is a combination of poetry, prose and short stories that took him forty years to complete. He originally wasn’t going to publish it because it was personal stuff but his kids convinced him to. I could have talked to him all night but I was exhausted.
I’m falling asleep as I type this. Time for bed.
